Inspired by Will Martin’s Sermon March 10, 2019
God has blessed us all with important unique gifts that can be used to serve Him and bring Him Glory. Colossians 3:16 says that no matter what we do, we are to do it in a way that glorifies God. We each have a unique gift that can allow us to serve the creator of the universe. It is our job to discover the gifts that God has given us to use to serve Him.
It is easy to look at what others have received and to be jealous, thinking that their gift might be better, but that is not the attitude that God wants us to have. The Apostle Paul had to address this attitude problem with the Christians who were in Corinth. They didn’t see the value in their own gifts, so the apostle Paul explained to them in 1 Corinthians 12:14-20 that just as each body part has a different job to do, so do we as members of Christ body.
Read 1 Corinthians 12:14-20
Just as the ear is in charge of listening and the mouth is in charge of speaking, we as Christians have different responsibilities. Think about the song leader, he isn’t in charge of preaching a sermon and the preacher isn’t in charge of leading us in song. The song leader has been blessed with the talent of song leading and so he should lead singing, to glorify God, and likewise preacher should preach to glorify God.
We should all use our talents to glorify God no matter what they are because God has given us all something to bring him honor and glory.
Parents Discuss with your children:
What talents has God given to you so that you might be able to serve Him better?
How are you going to use these to serve God?
What talents do you think your parents have to serve God?
What are the challenges of using your talents?
What are some talents that you wish you had?
Do you ever find it difficult to be content with the talents God has given you?
Pray Together or Privately:
Pray, God would help you to recognize your talents and to be content with them, and not jealous of the talents of others.
