God is so good to us! He gives us a million reasons to be thankful each and every day! However, there are 2 reasons we need to be thankful that in my opinion should cause us to be thankful each and every day. I believe these things should cause us to be thankful no matter what we face in life because God has freely provided us with these 2 things. They are 2 things we couldn’t provide ourselves and only God could provide them. They are our creation and our salvation.
He Created Us
Being thankful is part of being created. The fact that we are created means we could not have existed without God’s help. We couldn’t have generated our own life; it is only through God that we can exist. Not only is it only through Him that we can exist, but He created us well. The psalmist points this out when he says, “I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well” (Psalms 139:14 ESV).
Truly we have been created and designed in the most wonderful and fearful way. Our bodies function in so many wonderful ways. The heart’s ability to pump blood through our bodies, our eyes ability to see, and our fingers ability to pick up small items are unbelievable. Yet, we do all these things on a regular basis. We breath without thinking about the fact that we are breathing. The human body was truly so well designed. The fact that we are created so well is evidence for how good God is. Simply because we are created, we should be thankful people!
He Saved Us
The only reason we exist is because God created us, likewise the only reason we can be Christians is because He chose to save us. Romans 3:23 makes it clear that we all have sinned.
Romans 3:23 ESV- “for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God”
We all at one point or another have or will chose sin over God, yet He wanted to save us. We deserved death because of our sins, but God wanted to give us the chance of eternal life! He wanted to provide us with a second chance that we didn’t deserve.
Romans 6:23 ESV – “For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.“
This is such amazing love. God was willing to send His son to the earth to die on the cross for our sins! So that we might have the hope of eternal life. John 3:16 shows us how much love He has for us, and how good He is!
John 3:16 ESV – “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.”
God is so Good:
God has given so many reasons to be thankful, because every good and perfect gift comes from above (James 1:17). However, more simply we should be thankful simply because He chose to create us, and He chose to save us. We couldn’t do anything to produce life on our own and we could do nothing to save ourselves from our sins. Only God could create us and save us. God is so good.
Think and Discuss:
Why should we be thankful people?
What 2 things did God do that we couldn’t do for ourselves?
Because God created us and saved us should we be thankful in every circumstance?
